6.00AM : PRANAYAMA, PURIFICATION AND PREPARATION

DAILY LIFE

Life in the Yoga Village starts at the exact time of sunrise, when all the resident practitioners gather at the stage under the banyan tree and practice their own specific individual practices given by the teacher on their initiation. The practices range from pranayama, meditation and purification exercises.

Shortly after the asana class breakfast is served. From breakfast to lunch at 1.30pm the time for each student is normally free, during which students can either have massage or ayurvedic treatments, go to the beach (approx. 700m) or they can listen to the discourses which are periodically held for the residents.

From after lunch time to sunset is also free; however some students will be found doing their own given personal practices. At sunset time all students go to the beach to perform their contemplative and meditative practices.

On occasion after sunset practices around 7.30pm there is also a bonfire held at the Yoga Village allowing time for students to relax and contemplate until dinner is served at 8.30pm, thereafter all students rest until sunrise. (However the serious practitioners call it a day after their midnight meditations.)

Accommodation: The accommodation in the Yoga Village is in cottages built from eco-friendly materials- all of which are clean, spacious and basic to suit a yogic lifestyle. All are large enough to accommodate two persons with attached toilet and shower. Each cottage has wooden and cane furnishings complete with clean mattresses, sheets, towels and blankets. (All cottages are cleaned on a daily basis). The village has 10 cottages, thus the maximum capacity is 20 guests, most of which have ocean views.

Food: The Yoga Village has an ayurvedic kitchen. Everyday fresh fruits and vegetables are collected from the local farmers and all food items are made from scratch. Every single meal is prepared on the basis of the ayurvedic vata, pitta and kapha conditions of the day, time, month and season. The solar, lunar and other astrological conditions of the meal time are also taken into consideration before the preparation of all meals. The wisdom behind the food is equally tasteful as the food itself. The food cooked is strictly from an Indian culinary tradition which is delicately balanced on the basis of timing, nutrition, taste and health. All food is served in a buffet.
